Expert advice for every step of pregnancy, baby and toddler health
HSE’s mychild.ie will be born on the 4th of July
This week will see the launch of a new HSE campaign introducing mychild.ie, the new pregnancy, baby and toddler health website and books.
These are all provided free of charge by HSE midwifery and public health nursing teams as they care for parents-to-be in pregnancy, and for parents, babies and toddlers during early years.
The HSE’s mychild.ie books and website are designed to be a one-stop-shop where parents can get accurate and trusted information on pregnancy and all the way through the first three years of their child’s life.
During the development of mychild.ie we heard from over 4,000 parents from all walks of life. Parents told us that they want common sense information, advice about what to do if their child has a problem, and what people and services to get in touch with for more help and support.
Parents told us that having all aspects of child health coming under one HSE-led, trusted umbrella would be incredibly helpful for them, and that the topics they’re most interested in are breastfeeding, crying and sleep, play and bonding and health advice like immunisation and caring for a sick baby
Promotional packs with posters for health facilities and other mychild.ie materials are being delivered to GP surgeries, Maternity Units and Hospitals, and Directors of Public Health Nursing in the next week or so
The new resources were made possible by a partnership and grant funding from the Atlantic Philanthropies. This funding has enabled the Nurture Programme: Infant Health and Wellbeing to be established as a three-year programme to improve the information and professional supports provided to parents during pregnancy and the first three years of their child’s life. The Nurture Programme is a partnership between the HSE, the Atlantic Philanthropies, the Katharine Howard Foundation and the Centre for Effective Services.
We ask everyone working with parents and parents-to-be to visit www.mychild.ie and to recommend it to all the parents you care for.
